Responsibilities:
Roles and examples of the type of work/projects you could be involved in include:
  • Technology
Performing mechanical testing to qualify materials for Nuclear Fusion. An opportunity to be involved with novel testing, focusing on understanding the deformation mechanisms. Working closely with the EU DEMO team (a DEMOnstration fusion power plant) team contributing to the delivery of work package materials.
  • Component Validation Team
Simulating, designing and carrying out the experiments that provide the stress analysis data required to validate component designs for fusion reactors. You will interact with several teams based in South Yorkshire, working across the various experimental rigs including the combined heating and magnetic research apparatus ‘CHIMERA’ for testing in-vessel components and ‘Elsa’ a cryogenic rig for testing superconducting magnet joints. Our scheme is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) and the Institute of Physics (IoP) as a professional development scheme.
