Closes: February 18, 2022
Location: Culham, Oxfordshire, UK, Europe
Salary: £13,525
Annually
Work Type: Apprenticeship
Background Information:
By 2050, the planet could be using twice as much electricity compared to today. Are you interested in joining an organisation where your work will contribute and help to shape the future of the world’s energy? If so, an apprenticeship within the UKAEA Apprenticeship Scheme provides a perfect gateway into a future career in this industry. Fusion, the process that powers the Sun and Stars, is one of the most promising options for generating the cleaner, carbon-free energy that our world badly needs. UKAEA are at the forefront of realising energy from fusion, working with industry and research partners to deliver the ground-breaking developments that will underpin tomorrow’s fusion power stations with the aim of bringing fusion electricity to the grid. As we work towards our mission and goals, UKAEA has devised values that capture the spirit of how we work. These values include being: Innovative, Committed, Trusted and Collaborative.
Role Description:
Who are we looking for?  We have an excellent opportunity for motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our organisation where you will spend 80% of your time developing both your general work-related skills and 20% on obtaining professional qualifications. Full training will be provided throughout your apprenticeship, and UKAEA has a dedicated Early Careers Team to support your journey and a nurturing community that learns from each other. Within the 20% training and development, you will be required to enroll with a training provider to complete a suite of activities designed to develop your professional qualifications. This may be completed on day release or block release dependent on the apprenticeship standard you are completing. You will be naturally curious and will enjoy probing and asking questions to steer you through your development. Having a great attitude to personal development, your enthusiasm will drive your learning in this exciting environment. This together with your excellent communication skills, ability to manage your time and priorities as well as working well in a team will bring you success. What opportunities does the apprenticeship scheme cover?  The work you’ll be doing will provide direct support to the Technical Coordinators, meaning you’ll learn a lot about different teams working across UKAEA. Each project is different, as is each department and depending on where you are based you will be learning how to undertake the following tasks:
  • Be supervised by the Technical Coordinator of the project, and have work given through the Tech Coordinator on a project/programme. They would not receive work directly from a Project Manager/Product Lead
  • Shadows the Tech Coordinator and learns about the specific place they work in, and UKAEA in general
  • Learn and be trained in business systems, such as imputing data into the ARM risk register, SharePoint training (to update and maintain meta-data, lists and so forth), and Microsoft packages to help maintain project spreadsheets and chase up for missing information
  • Learn to distribute important project documentation, following a document control procedure set out by the organisation
This will all be possible with a proactive approach with an ability to work on own initiative.
