In-Person Interview
These are our top tips to help you prepare for your in-person interview.
Plan your Journey
If you are required to travel, ensure that you organise your mode of transport and start your journey on time it is better to be early than late!
Select an Outfit
Research the company dress code beforehand. Is it a laid back start-up or a formal office environment?
As a rule of thumb, try to avoid jeans, track suits and trainers. Keep jewelry and perfume to a tasteful minimum too.
Bring useful Paperwork
It’s always a good idea to take a spare CV and application form with you.
Don’t forget to take any other documents the employer may have asked you to bring with you, such as your passport or National Insurance Number.
Do your Research
Spend some time researching the company. What is their vision? What are their values? Make notes of important projects you could ask questions about, and revise prior to the interview.
Practice
Make sure you prepare and practice your answers to common interview questions. The National Careers Service website has a list of the top ten interview questions here.
Be Yourself
Remember to be polite, friendly, smile, but most importantly don’t forget to be yourself! The interviewers will be far more interested if your personality shines through.
Online Interview
A lot of the suggestions for a face to fact interview may still apply even if your interview is online. However, there are some additional pointers to consider.
Check your Broadband
Ensure that you have a stable internet connection.
If possible do your meeting in the same room as the wifi box
Where possible turn off other devices that use the wifi for the duration of your interview. E.g phones
Find the right Setting
Aim to have your interview in quiet area away from background noise (closing windows may be helpful)
Against a plain wall avoid busy backgrounds that may cause distraction
Find a comfort sit (sound silly but nothing is worse than sitting through an interview being uncomfortable)
Be Punctual
Set up your device at least 30 minutes before your interview
Ensure your device is fully charged or plugged into a charging source.
The night before make sure your device is updated to avoid any sudden rest.
Familiarise yourself with the application you will be using for the interview
